Rare to find in private collections, this complete Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber prop was used by Ewan McGregor in 1999’s Star Wars Ep.1: The Phantom Menace. The lightsaber hilt is made of resin, with a threaded rod embedded into the resin originally when it was molded. An aluminum “blade” painted florescent green and covered with a heat shrink material then screws down onto the prop lightsaber hilt to complete it. During filming these blades could be quickly swapped out when they would get bent or broken. The iconic glowing lightsaber effect would be added during post production using the green blade as a guide to digitally trace over.
